Mission: For more than 20 years, the Council on American Islamic Relations has fought for the civil rights of American Muslims.  The New York chapter is one of the busiest and most dynamic of CAIR’s thirty nationwide affiliates, defending, representing, and educating over one million Muslims in the New York area. Through media relations, government relations, legal representation education, and advocacy, CAIR–NY puts forth an Islamic perspective to ensure the Muslim voice is represented in the halls of power. In offering this perspective, CAIR–NY seeks to empower the American Muslim community and encourage their participation in political and social activism.  CAIR–NY counsels, mediates and advocates on behalf of Muslims and others who have experienced religious discrimination, defamation, or hate crimes.  Our lawyers work to protect and defend the constitutional rights of American Muslims, thereby supporting the rights of all Americans. CAIR–NY also offers a variety of publications that address the needs and rights of American Muslims. These publications include guides for employers, educators, healthcare providers, correctional facilities, and law enforcement officials. CAIR–NY also distributes practical handbooks and resource materials for the Muslim community.
